Alhambra Beef & Pears: Raising Grass Fed Beef in the Bay Area

We returned to Alhambra Valley Beef & Pears this spring to catch up with Ben and Pearl and hear more about the cattle ranch side of their family operation. Founded by Pearl’s grandparents in 1906, Alhambra Valley Beef & Pears sits on 600 acres of pasture in the hills of Martinez, California. Although the size of their property rivals some of the largest beef producers in the nation, the Pereira family says they are more than happy with their small-scale operation. Alhambra’s top priorities are providing high-quality meat and produce to their local community and raising the animals with care and compassion - on average, they only process three cattle per month for the markets. Learn about the early days of ranching with a look through black and white photographs from the 1920s; see all how the farm has evolved, and the many ways its history is being preserved as we tour their vast acreage. Now a 3rd generation family owner, along with her brothers, Pearl shares stories of what it was like growing up on the farm, and what it means to them to keep the ranch going after more than 115 years.
We’re proud to share a piece of their family history with the world. Support the Pereira family and Alhambra Valley Beef & Pears by shopping with them at your local PCFMA market.
