Bautista RanchStockton , CA
Bautista Ranch is a second-generation family farm. They have been farming at the same location in Stockton for over 60 years and grow a wide variety of vegetables including summer squash, an array of peppers and heirloom tomatoes. They began selling at farmers' markets in 1986 and now produce for twelve markets during the summer season.
Over the years, Bautista Ranch has found their niche growing specialty products including heirloom tomatoes and peppers. They also grow a rainbow of colorful squash, melons, beans, and specialty ethnic vegetables. Hand harvesting (even walnuts) produces the best possible fruits and vegetables. Their afternoon markets benefit from same day harvest. It is important to them to practice sustainable farming not only as a farming method but as a way of life.
Using a combination of techniques such as cover crops, biological control, and mechanical and hand labor, they have improved the overall health of the land and brought the best possible fruits and vegetables to farmers' markets. Being a good steward to the land is a long-term relationship and they also pride themselves in the long relationship they have with their customers. At the core of their farming lies their commitment to producing the best produce they can, at a reasonable price for their customers.
