Nothing says fall like a crisp apple on a chilly day

This quintessential autumn fruit comes in several all-purpose varieties like Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, and Pink Ladies, most of which can be found at your local farmers' market when the days get a little shorter and the air is crisp. Most can be eaten fresh, cooked into pies, breads, and cakes, made into applesauce, or even baked whole!

Apples are also low in calories, full of fiber, are a natural breath freshener, and can help lower cholesterol. Looks like there’s something to be said about that apple-a-day habit!

While there are many classic apple varieties, farmers' markets often have heirloom varieties!
